Hi Noah!

Thanks for stopping by! It is very exciting that you are thinking about the Allagash for your family. It can be a spectacular family adventure.

There are many possibilities for 5 -7 day trips. Some of the route options are described here on the guide page.

In brief, a family could put-in at Churchill Dam and spend 5 days exploring Churchill, Eagle and Chamberlain Lakes.

For a more adventurous route, put in at Churchill Dam and take the river downstream to Allagash Village. On this route, you will encounter the Class II Chase Rapids. If your crew is not quite ready for that, the Rangers will portage you around the rapids or you could put in at Bisonette Bridge below the rapids.

In either case, with a family of four, best to take it slow. Enjoy the camps. Think about spending more than one night at a site.

Fall is a great time of year. The bugs should be gone after Labor Day (but could return if it is wet and warm). River levels may be low – best to check levels before you go at this link. Levels below 500 CFS will expose gravel bars and progress will be slow.Β  If levels are low, the lake route is probably preferable. Nights will be cool. Dress warm.

I always take my Rivian R1S to the Allagash and have not had any issues charging.

For a river trip, I stay at Fort Kent at the Northern Door Inn.Β  Next door at the police station are two level 2 chargers. I leave my car there to charge overnight and from there I hire an outfitter to take me to my put in.Β  The outfitter drives my car to the take out.

If putting in at Churchill Dam for a lake adventure, you may be able to make it by fully charging at the Circuit Electrique high speed station at 530 Rue de BerniΓ¨res, Levis. It is still about 135 miles to the Churchill Dam put in from there – 270 miles round trip. So, this may be tight depending on your battery range.

Hope this is helpful and that you have a great trip!
